BAC CENTRES TALK ON DEVELOPMENT PROJECTS IMPLEMENTATION UNDER THE TRANSPARENCY PROJECT

The second radio talk show of the Brikama Area Council under the project ‘Enhancing Transparency, Citizen’s Participation and Access to Local Governance’ was focused on the development projects implemented in various wards, specifically Jaduma Ward and Kiang Bintang Wards, respectively.

The radio talk show began with the panellists introducing themselves and sharing their journeys into politics.
Hon. Nfamara Saidykhan was asked about ongoing projects in his ward. He noted that there are currently no council projects active in Jaduma Ward. However, he mentioned his personal engagement with the community in Jarra Kanni Kunda, focusing on the maintenance of broken street taps and street lights, as well as a recent cleansing exercise that took place over the previous weekend.

When asked about community participation in addressing these issues, he emphasized that his leadership is built on strong communal cooperation and inclusive participation, regardless of political affiliation.

Hon. Momodou Sowe was asked about any recent developmental projects he has initiated in Kiang Bantang Ward. He highlighted that he recently secured funding for the construction of 10 mosques from an Islamic agency, with five currently under construction. This project aims to help the Muslim community perform prayers more easily. Additionally, he mentioned that support for drilling boreholes is expected to begin as part of a pilot project, which will commence after the completion of the mosques.

Hon. Saidykhan, discussing his efforts to address the needs of his constituents, mentioned that he is currently serving his second term. His electoral victory was largely due to his commitment to developmental initiatives, stating that every community has benefited from significant projects he has overseen, including boreholes, donations, and support for materials to assist those in need. He also shared plans to build and manage the reconstruction of feeder roads, although he acknowledged that resource constraints remain a challenge.

In response to an open question about the inclusive engagement of persons with disabilities (PWDs), women, and youth in their respective community development committees (VDCs), both panelists affirmed their commitment to inclusivity They expressed that such diverse representation is crucial for achieving their developmental goals.

Hon. Sowe also highlighted the ongoing need for water assistance, lamenting that since 1984, many communities have not benefited from any significant projects that could enhance their social development, a statement he described as sorrowful.
