On February 21st, 2025, the Brikama Area Council disbursed D28 million to support regional development, with each ward receiving D1 Million. The event was attended by political party leaders, National Assembly members, councilors, youth leaders, media representatives, members of village and ward development committees, religious leaders, former Vice President Ousainou Darboe and other key stakeholders.
Key Highlights
The event began with prayers from both the Imam and the priest, followed by welcoming remarks from Deputy Chairman Mr. Jallow, who emphasized the council’s commitment to development. Councilor Bubacarr Kanteh provided an overview of the 2025 World Development Fund, highlighting its alignment with the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs). The key focus areas for the disbursed funds include:
SDG 3: Good health and well-being
SDG 6: Clean water and sanitation
SDG 7: Affordable and clean energy
SDG 8: Economic growth and women’s empowerment
SDG 9: Infrastructure and roads
SDG 1, 2 & 11: Poverty eradication, hunger relief, and sustainable communities
Youth and Sports Development
Chairman Daboe remarked on the council’s progress despite financial challenges, highlighting efforts to combat corruption and ensure that taxpayer funds are used for public good. He noted the increase in funding from D14 million last year to D28 Million this year, expressing hopes for continued growth. Additionally, he criticized the government for failing to provide its required subventions to the council. The event concluded with the presentation of check templates to ward representatives.
